Be Careful With Nutritional Supplements And Prescription Medications |

I take nutritional supplements every day for various different purposes. Valerian and melatonin are just two of the nutritional supplements I use. I have an overactive mind and consequently I sometimes have a problem sleeping despite the fact that I exercise regularly. I would rather use nutritional supplements like valerian and melatonin as a sleeping aid than take a prescription medication. Although I am certain that nutritional supplements can do a great deal to boost the overall health of an individual I still recommend caution to anybody who uses them. Herbal nutritional supplements can be extremely potent. They can also exacerbate certain health conditions and cause unwanted interactions with prescription medications. Fortunately you can check to see if nutritional supplements and prescription medications are likely to cause interactions by asking your doctor. There are also certain websites that you can use to find out about possible interactions. I had root canal surgery yesterday evening and my endodontic surgeon prescribed Percocet to help me deal with the pain afterwards. Before I took the Percocet pill I asked him whether it could cause any interactions with the nutritional supplements valerian and melatonin. He told me he did not think that any interaction would occur. When I got home I checked online just to make sure what he had told me was correct, which it was. I advise anyone who intends using nutritional supplements in conjunction with prescription medication to take the same precautions I did.
